Not that long ago, the best model was to pay to get a book designed, edited and formatted yourself, print 1000-2000 copies in China, and then have stock on hand to sell where you speak, including shipping it all over the country (or globe).

But with the costs of shipping books, carrying them on airlines (not to mention into other countries), and the logistics that go with it, this model is now old school. With the advent of digital printing, printing short runs and having them shipped to where you are speaking is the 2015 model.
